Reflect
The artifacts, Classroom Management Plan and Classroom Philosophy and Map, are examples of Standard 5 by demonstrating my ability to create a learning environment that fosters positive social growth and learning in students. Each artifact contains plans for my classroom that promote intrinsic motivation, cooperation, moral autonomy, and social and academic success in students. The Classroom Philosophy and Map creates a layout of an ideal classroom and relates areas in the classroom to specific educational philosophies. Student desks are clustered in groups of four to promote cooperative learning and discovery through interaction. Other areas, such as the peace table, are areas that provide children with methods and strategies to problem solve on their own. The Classroom management plan is an in-depth guide including, my philosophy, rules of the classroom, procedures, organization, and plan for engage parent support. All rules, procedures and management strategies are based on the theme of respect and community. These artifacts exemplifies my understanding of a variety of proactive management strategies that promote positive relationships, cooperation, and purposeful learning in the classroom.
Project
The artifacts, Classroom Management Plan and Classroom Philosophy and Map, reflect how I am as a learner by showing my use of critical thinking in applying areas of my ideal classroom to specific educational philosophies. They have helped me to understand the importance of having meaning behind the decisions implemented in the classroom. I have also learned from observation and study that the best behavior management technique is prevention, which influenced the procedure portion of the Classroom Management Plan. These artifacts have also helped me shape my philosophy of teaching. I believe that if I set the bar high academically and morally, that students will rise to it. I believe that both of these artifacts exemplify my ability to plan and implement procedures, routines, and management techniques and has made me aware of the difference they can make in a classroom. I can apply each in my future practice to encourage motivation and success both socially and academically in students.
